Gulfstream Park: Brown looks chalky in Pulpit, Wait a While

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Trainer Chad Brown, who’ll have more than 100 horses stabled at Palm Meadows during the winter, will have the likely favorite in both stakes to be run here opening day, with Storming Inti in the Pulpit and Ready to Act and Hillhouse High in the Wait a While. The Brown-trained Calm Pacific also is the horse to beat in the afternoon’s eighth race, an optional claimer on the turf.
Calm Pacific, a lightly raced son of Stormy Atlantic, began his career with a pair of victories before finishing third last out in an overnight stakes at Belmont.
“He took a while to get to the races, but once he got there he really showed up on the turf,” Brown said. “This two-other-than allowance race seems like the logical step, and if he runs well, maybe we’ll point him towards bigger things next year.”
Brown also said his undefeated 3-year-old Bakken arrived at Palm Meadows on Tuesday morning and will be nominated for the Grade 1 Malibu at Santa Anita on Dec. 26.
“The Malibu is a possibility or we can use the Hal’s Hope as a backup if he needs more time,” he said.
The Grade 3 Hal’s Hope will be run at a mile here Jan. 11.
