Gulfstream: My Pal Chrisy goes from last to first in Paseana

Leslie Martin My Pal Chrisy, with J.J. Gonzalez aboard, pushes her career bankroll past the $500,000 mark by winning the six-furlong Paseana.

My Pal Chrisy surpassed the $500,000 mark in career earnings Saturday at Gulfstream Park, when she closed from last to win the $113,000 Paseana by 6 3/4 lengths. Isabelle’s Thunder rallied for second in the six-furlong race for fillies and mares, while it was another head back in third to pacesetter Capitalism At Risk.

My Pal Chrisy ($3.20) was cutting back from a mile for the Paseana and trailed the field early as Capitalism At Risk put up fractions of 22.30 seconds for the opening quarter and 45.53 for the half-mile. My Pal Chrisy advanced on the final turn, and when clear at the top of the stretch quickly picked off rivals and went on to cover the distance on a track rated fast in 1:11.03.

J.J. Gonzales was aboard the winner, who was the 3-5 favorite.

My Pal Chrisy was making her first start for Miller Racing and trainer Marty Wolfson. She earned $75,000 for the win, her ninth from 39 starts. Her earnings now stand at $546,168. My Pal Chrisy, a daughter of the Valid Expectations stallion Alex’s Pal, was bred in Florida by Shade Tree Thoroughbreds. She was winning the fourth stakes race of her career in the Paseana, and earlier this year was third in the Grade 1 Princess Rooney at Calder.
