Gulfstream: 'Melody' draws clear

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Melody of Colors wore down her uncoupled stablemate Desirable Moment to score a one-length victory in the $50,000 Bob Slater Stakes at Gulfstream Park.
Melody of Colors dropped back into the pack after bobbling at the break. She commenced her rally leaving the backstretch, put in a strong run while slightly wide into the stretch, then readily wore down Desirable Moment to win going away.
Desirable Moment, the 9-5 favorite in a field of nine fillies and mares, inherited a comfortable advantage after Cutoffs bolted on the turn, but proved no match for the winner. Formada saved ground after a slow start, then rallied belatedly to finish third.
Petrina Above, the 124-pound highweight, also broke slowly and finished a non-threatening fourth.
Melody of Colors, a 5-year-old daughter of Concorde's Tune, covered five furlongs in 57.01 seconds over a firm turf course and returned $8.20. She is owned by her breeder, Laurence Foggle.
Both Melody of Colors and Desirable Moment are trained by Tim Hills who is on vacation and was not in attendance on Saturday.
