Gulfstream hoping to allow limited number of fans for Fountain of Youth card

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Billy Badgett, executive director of Florida racing operations for track owner The Stronach Group, said Gulfstream was scheduled to seek permission Friday from the city of Hallandale Beach to host ontrack fans on Fountain of Youth Day, Feb. 27. Except for the Jan. 23 Pegasus card, the general public has been barred from the track since the coronavirus pandemic began last March.

Badgett said 10 percent capacity, or “just a couple thousand fans,” was to be requested, a similar arrangement to what took place here for the Pegasus. Social distancing and mandatory face coverings once again will be enforced throughout the plant, he added.
Badgett said he is unsure when Gulfstream might start allowing fans on a more regular basis. Tampa Bay Downs, the other Thoroughbred track in Florida, has been permitting spectators in limited numbers since opening its 2020-21 meet in late November.
