Gulfstream: DRF Plus handicapping report for March 5, 2014

Spot PlayKISS THE STARS (#3, 5-2) Don’t really know if we’ll even get as much as 5-2 on this Pino trainee since it’s rather obvious that she is going to be tough to beat after badly needing that Feb. 12 race. Came favored in that one after training forwardly for her return, and without much early pace in here, she’s going to be prominent from the bell. Let’s start the day off with a winner. – Marty McGee Closer Looks >> |

Live LongshotLIL HONEY BADGER (#2, 6-1) doesn't have the Beyers of some of these but she proved in her latest that she does have a rating gear, which could prove key in this dash; works since her latest suggest she's sitting on a big race in her third start off the layoff. -Kenny Peck Closer Looks >> |

Spot PlaySANTA MIA (#7, 12-1) Solid amount of first-time window action on Feb. 12 suggests this filly is probably lots better than the performance suggests, and now that she has that valuable experience under her belt, look for her to fare much better this time around, likely by showing greater early interest. Draws favorably toward the outer while adding Trujillo and doesn’t face a real hellish group; a live longshot to consider strongly for the multi’s, especially the gargantuan Rainbow-6. – Marty McGee Closer Looks >> |

Spot PlayMinstrel Road (#7, 5-1) splashed his way to an easy win in the slop in an off-the-turf race recently, but grass is likely his calling. His first two starts came on grass and he ran well competitively in his one start on this course.-Byron King Vulnerable FavoriteMinstrel Road (#7, 5-1) just ran third off a layoff in a similar race Feb. 5, tiring after pressing the pace; has back class but has been slowed by layoffs and is in for this $16,000 tag for a reason.-Byron King |
