Gulfstream: DRF Plus handicapping report for January 31, 2014

DRF Staff|Jan 30, 2014

Race 1

Spot Play

PURE LUXURY (#1, 8-1) cuts back to a sprint and goes for a tag for the first time; expecting him to be involved early from the rail given a clean break, something he didn't get last time.-Kenny Peck

Race 2

Spot Play

Tiz Liberty (#3, 4-1) just won a starter, albeit in slow time, but looks appealing in this $12,500 claimer; makes her third start off a layoff, often the peak race of a horse’s form cycle, and has back class; 6 for 10 on dirt. – Byron King

Vulnerable Favorite

Apollo Sky (#2, 5-2) acts better suited to races shorter than today’s mile distance, and she figures to have company early with the speedy Three Part Harmony to her inside; could get softened up by going a quick pace. – Byron King

Race 8

Spot Play

TAP IT EASY (#2, 8-1) With the abundance of speed in this flat-mile N1X race (i.e.,Ever Awesome and Antipathy), doesn’t the paper race set up for a closer like this filly? Know that KJB been wanting for years to get an opportunity to train for the New Farm, and this Tapit filly now has the one solid race under her belt and stands to move forward off that Jan. 2 return. Slight stretchout can keep her a bit closer than normal, and when the speed duel takes its toll, she and the ever-underrated C-Lan could be the ones to capitalize.– Marty McGee

Race 9

Spot Play

COOL FAITH (#4, 3-1) Filly representing the longtime outstanding family of Canadian trainers now has benefit of a race over the Gulf surface after starting her career last fall with great promise, most notably that nose defeat versus the boys in the Cup & Saucer. Recent work over the Palm Meadows lawn serves to further awaken; let’s see Jersey Joe get her into the right spot before the real running begins and she struts her stuff for this snugly-fitting N1X condition. – Marty McGee
