Gulfstream: DRF Plus handicapping report for January 30, 2014

Spot PlayMORALITY (#8, 5-1) Aside from the favorable open-air outside box that this guy brings to the Thurs. opener, he’s also got those gaudy Walder stats in his favor (i.e., dirt, sprint, claiming races) and a speedster likely to benefit from the layoff. Looking for bugboy Davis to take the measure of the other fast ones down the backstretch and do what he needs to do from there. Even on the minor class raise to this $8k level, we’re doubting we’ll get the 5-1 promised, but close enough. – Marty McGee Live LongshotThe drop in class and the lack of pace in this opener should work to the advantage of C D GOLD (#6, 10-1), who has license to take a big step forward under the circumstances; 72 Beyer three back gives him credibility. -Kenny Peck |

Spot PlayCENTRIQUE (#4, 3-1) With the Pletcher enigma (Ana Luisa) likely to take more than the deserved amount of play, there’s value to be had in this high-end filly-mare mile, with this Wolfson trainee the most likely to capitalize. Has had three nice local works since her odds-on score in the Claiming Crown, and that’s nice to know; stalking style fits this race shape, and Eclipse winner Castellano always a plus. Solid and reliable here. – Marty McGee Closer Looks >> |

Spot PlayPredicting (#10, 8-1) looks like a good play in an off-the-turf scenario, which seems likely following rain on Wednesday and perhaps continuing into Thursday; his dirt form is solid, and the mile suits him perfectly. – Byron King Vulnerable FavoriteRumblefortheroses (#1, 3-1) looked best in here for turf, but not so on dirt – which seems likely following midweek rains; lacking much in the way of dirt form, he is very much of a “bet against” if the race comes off the grass and he still runs – Byron King Closer Looks >> |
