Race 3

Spot Play

WINGATE HALL (#10, 15-1): First-time tag is almost always a danger, and this Wilkes-trained gelding figures to be sent away a nice price, even with the added benefit of adding Leparoux. First attempt at a turf route came in one of those rugged Stars of Tomorrow races at CD, and now that he gets some class relief and has all that experience to draw from, we’re expecting him to finally come alive. Ever-capable trainer shows decent numbers in all the relevant categories. – Marty McGee

Race 6

Spot Play

ROWDY MISS (#4, 6-1): Solid effort in similar N2L company in her Ky. farewell seems to bode well for this newly turned 4yo, especially since there’s no standout facing her as she goes right back in a one-turn mile. Young trainer doesn’t have much of a sampling to work from, but good to know he’s the son of HOF jock Gary Stevens and has a positive career ROI. Underrated jock Castanon can help with the tote price. – Marty McGee

Race 9

Spot Play

HY KODIAK COWBOY (#4, 5-1) – figures to slip past the betting public despite strong current form over the Gulfstream strip; he crossed the wire first in an allowance, only to be disqualified for interference, and then ran second to the promising Coup De Grace; distance breeding on his dam side. – Byron King

Vulnerable Favorite

Raise into a 1x alw. route might very well expose this Ramsey/Pletcher runner ICHIBAN WARRIOR (5-2), who otherwise has shown himself quite useful in one-turn races. His runner-up try in an overnight CD stakes was pretty nice, but don’t be overwhelmed by his sprint wins in Ky., as they came against very suspect company. There are just too many viable alternatives here (i.e., Cousin Stephen, Solemnly Swear, Top Billing) to settle on a low number on a colt with something to prove around two turns and at this class level.
