Gulfstream: DRF Plus Handicapping Report for February 27, 2014

DRF Staff|Feb 26, 2014

Race 1

Spot Play

YES IT'S PINK (#7, 8-1) was unlucky in her latest, catching a rainy day Jan. 31 that resulted in her scheduled turf race being moved to a sloppy main track. She ran anyway, but struggled, finishing third, beaten over 22 lengths. Look for her to rebound if this race remains on the grass. – Byron King

Vulnerable Favorite

AVENTURINE (#6, 5-2) ran second last at this level and has Pletcher and Castellano in his corner, but she has been away for 11 months; regularly willing to be against such lengthy comebackers when they are favored. – Byron King

Race 7

Spot Play

PREVIOUS (#7, 6-1): With a couple of so-so turf-looking TAP fillies as favorites in here, isn’t there opportunity for something else to jump up and do the job? Yes, and here’s the prime candidate, a regally-bred Juddmonte homebred who has taken some Mott-style regrouping up at Payson and has given signs she’s far more ready to go than she was in that so-so Bel debut last May. Adds Lasix and gets Lezcano; all set for a much better performance. – Marty McGee

Race 9

Spot Play

COMME CHEZ SOI (#2, 6-1): Pricey filly gave every indication in that comeback start vs. Dame Dorothy that she was a filly badly in need of a race … otherwise why would Matz have run her if the race came off the grass? Likelihood of a moderate pace set here by In Tune gives her a big forward-stalking opportunity as she rebounds in a huge way with benefit of that sloppy 1/31 race under her belt. Nice inside trip under Saez is on order. – Marty McGee

Spot Play

IN TUNE (#5, 5-1) was a game winner in his sprint debut, rushing up to contest the pace following a slow start, and continuing well to the wire; goes longer here but there doesn't appear to be a ton of speed and his pedigree suggests he'll handle it. -Kenny Peck
