Gulfstream: DRF Plus Handicapping Report for February 21, 2014

DRF Staff|Feb 20, 2014

Race 1

Vulnerable Favorite

A class-drop (in claiming price, anyway) off a victory is not all that unconventional, especially when going from “beaten” to open conditions, but this particular move by Plesa seems to shout that he wants GRAND JETSETTER (#3, 5-2) out of the barn sooner than later. Plenty of accompanying speed seems to assure that this guy won’t be getting anything easy; presence of Rosario invariably depresses the tote price, so this one seems destined to be highly undervalued once they leave the gate. – Marty McGee

Spot Play

PROUD AZTECA (#5, 4-1): Fact this Indiana-bred hasn’t actually finished first and also takes the double-whammy raise from mdn.-claiming to allowances is sure to be a quick turn-off for many players … but hold on there a second, Baba Louie. Son of Kitten’s Joy is highly eligible to run better than in his first try, simply by virtue of the needed experience, and worth noting that Rosario sees fit to take the call for Maker, who continues to hit on all cylinders. He’s just not one to summarily dismiss only because of the appearance of first-glance negatives. – Marty McGee

Race 9

Spot Play

BOLD KITTEN (#4, 3-1) has been away since December but she has been working well, with that Jan. 18 breeze especially impressive; back Beyers fit well. -Kenny Peck

Race 10

Spot Play

SUM KINDA FABULOUS (#9, 10-1): Florida-bred from solid connections is liable to get overlooked in this rather deep MSW finale, what with Shug, Clement, Jerkens, and others being represented. Well, that’s OK, as Pompay has been known to put over a pricey newbie once in a while; outer post can afford the right kind of stalk-and-see trip to a filly who shows some solid drills and gets Lasix at first asking. Price will almost certainly be right. – Marty McGee
