Race 5

Vulnerable Favorite

SEA OF FACES (#4, 8-5)Yes, he’s taking the noteworthy drop from MSW company in for a tag and does have the ever-powerful Todd-and-Javier team working his corner. But isn’t it quite possible this guy simply has a case of the slows? Came on late in his first-and-only, although worth mentioning that was in the slop, and he’ll have to do a lot better to prevail here, even with the markedly easier company. – Marty McGee

Race 7

Spot Play

MANERO (#1, 5-2) : Named (we hope) for the long-gone but well-remembered Manero’s restaurant next to the intracoastal causeway on Hallandale Beach Blvd., this steady filly now adds blinkers while taking a subtle drop and coming favorably drawn for ever-capable barn. Should be able to sit, sit, sit a nice trip under a typically confident Saez ride, whether it’s on or near the lead. Nine-week layoff should have her on her toes. – Marty McGee

Race 8

Spot Play

SALTO (#11, 4-1): This guy seems to do his best when there’s a target ahead, and with plenty of inside speed (i.e., Mr. Online, Hobbs, etc.) to set the El Prado table, that shouldn’t be an issue. Eight-month layoff seemed to do him quite well, as he returned as a prompt fave in that Oct. allowance here; should be sitting a pretty trip under Javier after getting away cleanly from his outer post. – Marty McGee

Race 9

Mr. Prospector Stakes

A pair of sprinters with a spate of recent triple-digit Beyers, Star Harbour (#3) and Black Diamond Cat (#8), both would be tough with more big figs, but let’s look for the resurgent Apriority (#7) to repeat his eye-popping allowance victory over the Gulf main track and confirm his back-class once more.

David Fawkes has done yeoman’s work in getting Apriority back on form, and we’ll look for Bravo to work out the right kind of trip for the 6yo after Black Diamond Cat clears off from the outside post. Meanwhile, Travelin Man (#5), the beaten favorite in the same Nov. 24 race won by Apriority, surely needed that race, and he’ll loom a danger for the Pletcher/Castellano team in moving up for a major share here.

The play: key #7 in first and second in trifectas and supers while pressing with #5 to be an essential part of the under, i.e., 7 with 5 with 1, 3, 6, 8; and 1, 3, 6, 8 with 7 with 5; and all desired variations thereof. - Marty McGee
