Spot PlaySHAIKHA (#10, 5-2) No, the outside post in this two-turn turf race is no bargain, but this Kentucky-bred Sheppard trainee has a huge triple whammy on her side as she tries to knock out an elusive maiden condition: first Lasix, first tag, and first Rosario. Pretty much any of her summer efforts would do the trick here, and with the HOF trainer pulling out all the stops, she just has to be given very strong consideration. – Marty McGee Closer Looks >> |

Spot PlayYOU LIE (#6, 6-1) Of course she beat considerably lesser in the slop last out, and of course the track condition may’ve been a prime reason he won off by himself. But she does come favorably drawn as the “out there” speed, where there’ll be no encumbrances, and she’ll loom a factor from the bell when facing off against seven male rivals (and being a filly vs. boys has to help the mutuel). Look for another big effort right back under the new journeyman Gonzalez. – Marty McGee Closer Looks >> |

Vulnerable FavoritesHUDSON MIRACLE Yes, it’s Chad, which assures the tote price of being lower than it should be, and yes, this gelding sure seems to fit for this beaten $16k tag. But he is only 1-for-10 life as one of the real underachievers in the barn, and with so many others from which to choose, he seems an opportune play-against, at least on your horizontal tickets. – Marty McGee Closer Looks >> |
