Race 1 Celebrator Just 2 starts during career so has plenty of upside; stalked the speed nicely in last and figures to work out a good trip saving ground while chasing speedy Strong Humor; the 1st start with winners can be any runner's toughest assignment but clearly there is plenty of talent here; the one to beat.   Stourbridge Lion Super-blinkers on trainer adds to the appeal after posting his lowest Beyer since 2012; showed up with front wraps on for last 2 starts with mixed reviews; 9%-winning turf-to-dirt barn does not help the cause when primed for this following a 61-day absence.   Plenty Elusive Good sign that his 1st-GP main-track race represents a career-best Beyer; a huge departure from the only other dirt start of career when fading in the career debut; likes to be forwardly placed; projects to sit just off Strong Humor then hopes to wear that one down in deep stretch; the 2-back show runner Beyered 86 in his next-out WO-50K-claiming victory; the 3-back winner and show finisher Beyered 87-76 in next-out WO-Grade 3 stakes and 40K-claiming wins.   Squadron A 8 weeks since his 3rd-straight exacta finish; began career on GP dirt with a 3-0-0-0 line with something to prove over today's oval; he beat the 3-back runner-up finisher who Beyered 82 in his next-out CD-MSW win; lone victory was fresh with 96 days between races and is all-freshened up for this.   Red Hot Randy Horse for the course posted a December, 2012, MSW win on GP dirt stalking at today's 6.5F distance; the 2-back GP dirt loss represents the field's best Beyer speed figure; his last race traveling today's distance was an exacta finish; seems set for best making his 3rd start off the 47-day layoff; the pick.   B E Boston Strong Exits his 1st GP dirt start of career where he was primed at longer chasing the runner-up finisher who Beyered 88 in his next-out CRC alw. win; the 2-back show runner Beyered 91 taking a next-out GP-OPC victory; lone win was on the lead but has Strong Humor among others who project to possess better-early zip; view as a pace presence for part.   Alakazan Alakazan (BRZ) Trainer rarely runs 1st-time USA Imports but this May absentee adds Lasix for his 1st start away from Brazil; 1st time on dirt after working on the main track like he is ready to fire a huge race; bet hard in noth races but showed nothing with winners pre-rest; will be taking a wait and see approach.   Strong Humor Try to catch me; raced on the lead in last 3 races including a great sign that he posted a Beyer-career Top in latest over the GP-main track at today's distance; 71 days between races when posting latest win but is back in just 32 days for this; the 2-back runner-up finisher Beyered 73 in his next-out KEE-50K-claiming win. - Art Gropper Race 2 La Chilita Has been idle since giving it a big speed try en route to a close fifth in a $25K tilt on Keeneland's Polytrack Oct. 19; 5yo has never competed on the dirt, a surface which she's bred to handle; might need one, and she's light on Beyers compared to the protagonists in the field.   Lucky Liberty Got drilled when she came off the bench three weeks ago, when she was scooped up by a trainer who's won at a healthy 24% clip first-time off the claim going back five years ($3.08 ROI); trainer/rider combo is 2 for 20 at the meet, and this filly ran decently here in the past without finding the mark; could jump up at a square price.   Helluva Hunch Has been campaigned sporadically since being claimed for $25K here last April, and is finally getting the opportunity to string two races together; daughter of the popular Tapit broke her maiden going a mile around one turn here last winter, and might be poised to fire her best shot; consider for the bottom of vertical wagers.   Malibu Mudslide Earned Beyers in the low 80s while scoring twice in the fall, which included a maiden-breaking romp traveling three-quarters; the runner-up from her latest at Parx subsequently notched a $25K starter there with a 70 Beyer; can fire adequately while fresh, and is definitely the one to fear most with Carmouche retaining the mount.   Felixia Front-runner is coming off a fade job across town in conditioned company, in which she managed to salvage third; her new trainer has posted phenomenal numbers first-time off the halter switch, so there could be an upgrade here in the stamina department; has a chance to make all the running under the bug Davis.   Ultimate Class Had a productive '13 campaign in Kentucky and Chicago, after taking a $25K turf sprint here in February; the fourth horse from her last race at Churchill returned to win a five-furlong N1X on the Tampa sod (79 Beyer); veteran mare might need one before regaining her best form.   Yes Im Sweet Showed more speed than usual in a Dec. 1 NW2 dash in the slop, and kept on going to prevail with a 78 Beyer; will she challenge Felixia for the early lead here, or will she track that one on the backstretch before making her move? Lopez and Plesa are a combined 8 for 40 at the meet; contender. - Ron Gierkink Race 3 Moonwalker Sire wins with approximately 8% of his turf starters and this is the first foal from a dam who won once from four starts for 28k, and she didn't make a turf start; he has some early speed, and even though his first two starts haven't been encouraging, it is interesting to see Lopez take the call for his turf debut.   Charlie the Boss Sire wins with approximately 22% of his turf starters and dam was unraced; this colt is a 1/2 to minor stakes winner Star Queen (5-25, 158k, including 3 of 13 turf starts for 94k); he showed early speed at first asking and he has a turf leaning pedigree.   My Uncle Charlie It remains to be seen if he's truly a sprinter, but he ran well in his turf debut just two starts ago, and can't help but feel that he's a little bit interesting while turning back in distance for this; this really doesn't look like a bad spot for him to find out what he can do in a turf sprint.   Silver Armor He's another in here who might be able to get himself involved in the running right from the bell, but he will have to find a way to show more through the final furlong to get the job done; third-place finisher from latest won next out here on 1/4 going 6f vs. MSW rivals with an 80 Beyer.   More Than Special From a limited sample, this barn shows success with turf sprinters, and viewing the presence of Leparoux aboard this Tampa Bay shipper as a sign that his connections feel that he can handle competition of this caliber; runner up from debut won next out at Tam on 12/22 going 1 1/16m over turf vs. MSW rivals with a 64 Beyer.   High Intense High Cotton has been a poor influence as a turf sire and this colt tired badly in a five furlong turf dash in his career debut; note that he exits the same race as today's rival Silver Armor.   Red Fever Sire wins with approximately 11% of his turf starters and dam was winless from six starts, including one turf start; his two most recent races haven't been bad performances, and perhaps his connections feel that he'll do well sprinting over turf as they see fit to call upon Castellano for this.   Seoul Bullet (KOR) Sire wins with approximately 11% of his turf starters and this is the first foal from an unraced dam; runner up from debut won next out at Crc on 1/10 going 6 1/2f vs. 32k MCL's with a 54 Beyer; it might be worth noting the presence of Lopez aboard another in here, but he ran well enough in his debut to merit some consideration against these.   Coro Coro Sire wins with approximately 16% of his turf starters and this is the first foal from a stakes winning dam who won 4 of 23 starts for 210k, including 0-for-1 over turf; he's flashed ability through his first four starts and this looks like a favorable spot to try him in a turf sprint for the first time.   High Limit Sire wins with approximately 14% of his first-time starters and with approximately 13% of his turf starters, and dam won 2 of 22 starts for 48k, including 0-for-5 over turf; this colt is a 1/2 to Diva in Training (12-59, 100k, including 1 of 9 turf starts for 19k); he makes his career debut for a barn that has been going strong with their turf sprinters. - Brian Pochman Race 5 Pacific Image Fair but light work tab for this beginner, son of 85K winner Mr.Sekiguchi (whose progeny have won 3 of 50 debuts); the dam involved was unraced; among the winning siblings is 148K earner Lady Rosamond.   All That Brass Sired by Colonel John won a G1 stakes and 1.77 million; his offspring have scored in 3 of 34 initial starts; the dam won 1 of 5 attempts and 12K; winning siblings include 13K earner Double Minor; playable.   H Town Brown Two sharp efforts thus far, the last one at the course and distance; his sire won the Derby and 3.61 million; the dam won 2 of 9 and 45K; winning siblings include 686K bankroller D Funnybone; legitimate exacta chances once again.   Borseggiatore Has yet to hit the board although the last run he suffered through a troubled start; switches to a top journeyman and can improve as a result; recent half-mile breezes are a distinct upgrade.   Mo's the Man Vast improvement with the addition of blinkers back in November; his sire won 4 of 9 and 752K while the dam won 1 of 6 and 57K; among the winning siblings is 92K earner Wild About Irene; work tab this month shows much enthusiasm.   Slip By Newcomer hails from multiple champion Curlin who amassed 10.5 million and whose descendants have won approximately 10 percent of their first races; the dam won 3 of 8 and 304K; winning sibs include 475K earner Palmiero.   Hartford Beginner was sired by G1 victor Tapit who captured 557K and whose progeny have won 56 out of 455 initial appearances; the dam won 2 of 9; among the winning sibs is G1 winner Dance Card who had earnings of 502K.   Againsome Cross-reference workout pattern with previous Pletcher trained runner; this colt was sired by Breeders' Cup Classic winner Awesome Again (his offspring have won nearly 10 percent of their first attempts); the dam won 1 of 3 and 10K; sib to 114K earner Star Presence. - Jim Kachulis Race 7 Bergerac Proven for this price, back on the preferred surface and gelding has won at this distance; love the spacing of the return drills and he got a boost when the winner of last repeated in a $7500 starter last Saturday at Oaklawn with a 90 Beyer; he brings speed to the table but will have to deal with Sir Edgar on the front end.   El Uno Hung wide two back when probably just overmatched; like the way he was inching toward the winner in last but not the local victory came at 16-1; in good hands, needs very best.   Mega Boom Runner was forced to steady in the lone effort on this course; don t fret about the drills as trainer has his own ways in getting horses fit; and there is a precedent that shows he can fire fresh; this guy graduated off about a 10-week layoff in 2012; place horse in last took an N1X next out and the 12th finisher beat $5K claimers next out; not impossible chore.   Tapit's Brew He only beat 5 foes in the lone win last year; in his best local effort, he was a closing third beaten a length and a half in a MSW in 2009; 12/1 place horse beat $20K claimers next out; not close in the last 2 turf starts; trainer has been firing on all cylinders this meet, has some things to iron out.   Midnight Notes Don't be too harsh about last as he could not stand up in the off going; runner was also out in post 10 in the Laurel fiasco two back; colt has to prove he can win off the layoff too; needs a turn around.   Le Mans Off the rail, he has the 2 races to build on now but he has to prove he can win outside conditioned claiming land; 6/29 winner won twice since, the last was last Friday at Oaklawn in a $7500 claimer; would tread lightly here.   North Star Boy (IRE) All the stateside efforts have been solid; Lanerie got a chance to figure him out and you can build a case runner could get a stalk and pounce trip; he s proved he can go to a fight, battle and win; interesting.   Target Sighted That was a huge middle move in last and he just kept on going; 10/19 place horse cashed next out in a $250K Penn National stakes with a clever 103 Beyer; note place horse in last was nearly 4 clear; senior needs help on the front but the pace should be live; look for him in the final furlong if at all.   O Wanderlust Nothing like a quick turn on an investment to get the morale popping at the barn; not close in the last couple of grass efforts and he could be looking at the fastest splits he s ever encountered; needs very best.   Vanquisher Nice to see them still competing at 10; apparently not much of a work horse, but this guy knows all the tricks by now; not he was out in the marooned slot two back; probably needs to improve to repeat.   Longhunter (GB) Gelding has been firing bullets in the Bayou; 10/13 winner repeated in a $100K stakes, then was third beaten a half in the Grade 2 Kennedy Road; place horse 10/13 took an N3X at LRL next out, then was first again in the $100K El Prado; expect much better effort today.   Sir Edgar Proven locally, he has been given time after 4 tough races in a row; style no secret, all 8 of his wins have been virtually wire-to-wire; 4th finisher in last took a $25K optional next out and 9th finisher beat $10K Calder claimers in next; like fact he broke through in the miler last time; catch him to cash.   Broome Street Versatility could be his best asset; he can win on the lead or come from left field; 12/13 place horse took an N1X at Calder last Friday with an 88 Beyer; note the last time he was up for sale, he freaked by over 8 here and was coming away late; a player if the race comes off the grass.   Java Man Hard used from the rail last time, maybe clever connections had this race in mind all the time; Rosario hired and Hess used him in SoCal too; runner has more speed than he just showed; could very well be Da Man if he gets a shot to suit up.   Bernie the Maestro The conductor wants to beat ya even at 7; place horse in the last win cashed next out took a $150K stakes at Penn National next out with a 102 Beyer; runner has won dirt to turf in his career nothing wrong with a 50% win slate in the last 2 years; another factor if he goes. - Brian Mulligan Race 8 My Due Process Makes her first start in 8 months after being ambitiously placed in a Churchill stake; move to the fence should bring out some more early foot in her and she's worked ok in the interim for this new outfit; nice to see Rosario take the call, but there's a lot of lick in here so she'll have to work.   What a Party Didn't get off to a very good start when stretched out in her return from the break and failed to finish that route; she's back to the trip she prefers here and she's won the last 2 times she's tackled it; these are better than she's beaten and there's other speed in here, but she was certainly quick early in Jersey last summer and her lick must be respected.   Four Aria MTO was stuck on a wide spot here last month and didn't have enough to factor late in that one; filly was solid on the front end in her local return 2 back and she really seems to like a track with moisture in it; contender if the rains come.   Valverdina Filly is a neck shy of perfection in 4 career starts and looked quite good wiring cheaper across town at the trip last month; expect she'll again be firing from the bell and she clearly has ability, but she does pick up weight here and will have several rivals to beat to the top before attempting to hold off the latecomers; speedy threat.   Magic Mesa She got caught arguing the fractions down inside on the Meadowlands lawn 2 back but held quite well for third money while getting beaten less than a length for the whole thing; she doesn't win often, but she does usually give a solid account of herself and the presence of other speed should allow her to relax a bit from the bell today; worth a good look.   Taty's Gold Mare has won 8 times and she'll make her local return on the rise to this level; she boasts slow interim Tampa breezes of late for her return from the break and her best game is speed which won't benefit her given this heat's pace scenario.   Believe in Charlie Turns back to sprint after failing to finish in her return to a course over which she hasn't run very well; she's got a right to go much better at this shorter trip and should get a beneficial setup; Castellano sees enough to take the call and the price should be right.   Lignite Each of the 3 times this gal hit the wire first she led her foes every step of the way and she hasn't had nearly as much luck when unable to make the top; she'll draw towards the outside again and though she breaks quickly could well find herself in a wide spot from the bell; don't think she'll have enough left late.   Jane of All Trades Should be tighter with her return from nearly 6 months on the shelf behind her; filly's 2 wins both came over the local sod so the return to this venue could help move her up and a top pilot sticks with her for her second crack at the level; barn's overall numbers with turf sprinters are tough to overlook.   Bares Tripper Draws outside for her local turf debut after being given a little time off following a weak slop try in Kentucky; filly earned some of her better numbers on the green out West last year and she does look to get plenty of speed to set things up in this heat; consider. - Steve Grabowski Race 9 Gold Former This is a tough assignment for this 7-year-old but he's won three of eight over turf and a couple of his stronger performances have come over turf in his last five starts; winner from latest won next out at Haw on 12/15 going 1 1/16m vs. 75k OPC's with a 95 Beyer.   Ocean Seven (IRE) Half-brother to multiple G1 winner Goldikova (17-27, $7.1 million, including 3 of 4 North American turf starts for $3.5 million) is likely going to appreciate getting back over turf, but his best effort doesn't appear to be strong enough to get over on the top contenders in this spot.   State Flag Late running type had a solid 2013 from seven starts, but it looks like he's going to need to produce a career best performance to get the better of this bunch; perhaps a minor award is within reach, but going to look in another direction for the top spot.   Autobahn Legend He's relatively lightly raced, so perhaps there's a chance that he still has more to show us, but it's going to take a noticeable step forward in order for him to threaten the top contenders in here.   Global Express This is a pretty difficult spot for his return to action, but this colt seemed to keep getting better and better throughout his 3-year-old season, and he shows up for a barn that is capable of having one ready to run well fresh.   Cozy Kitten Multiple graded stakes placed veteran hasn't been in bad form lately and he didn't finish all that far behind one of today's key rivals inHothersal two races back; not going to put him at the top of the list, but won't be surprised if he sneaks his way into a spot underneath in the exotics.   Learn (IRE) It looks like he did some nice work racing overseas, and based on the wagering support he attracted in his first start in America, perhaps there's reason to believe that we just didn't see the best of him that day; note that he's a nose shy of being G1 stakes placed in France.   Tattenham This barn has been a little bit slow to get going at this meeting, but they figure to heat up sooner than later, and this colt appears to be an interesting option to consider in here; Juddmonte-homebred attracts the services of Rosario for this.   Pick of the Litter Feel that it's fair to question the dirt form that is lined up in this race and this looks like it will be the ideal spot for this G3 stakes placed colt to get to run if this race has to be moved to the main track; like to see that he has posted a win over this surface.   Middleburg This colt has a nice pedigree for turf and he's a 1/2 to multiple G1 winner Winchester (6-30, $1.6 million, including 5 of 18 North American turf starts for $1.5 million); he commands a good deal of respect against these after stepping it up along the Beyer Speed Figure scale in a winning performance in his latest outing over this turf course.   Hothersal He's G3 stakes placed racing over the synthetic surface at Woodbine and he really hasn't run a bad race through his first 10 starts, including eight turf starts; add in top connections, and there's plenty to be positive about in this direction; Castellano has won with 15 of 47 (32%) mounts for this barn at the current meeting. - Brian Pochman Race 10 Pernicious No-gate speed in all 3 losses with a career-declining Beyer speed figure pattern; takes what some call the biggest-class drop in racing (MSW-to-maiden claiming); best race was his debut loss rallying well at today's distance on turf chasing the runner-up finisher who posted 88-86 Beyer speed figures in next-out SAR-MSW and optional-claiming wins.   Gifted Ruler Sire is 3-for-20 with 1st-turf starters; is out of an unraced dam; 1 of 2 foals to race on grass is a turf winner (Grade 3-stakes winner Yankee Fortune 8-24 turf, 365K); 2nd-time Long can be an improvement angle but stamina is the issue; the 2-back show finisher Beyered 83 in his next-out CD-MSW graduation.   To the Stars The 1st start in a maiden claimer is considered the biggest-class drop in racing from the MSW level; 7 weeks since his 2nd straight doule-digit length defeat; the winner from last is now 2-for-2 Beyering 87 in his next-out TAM-allowance win; his field-best Beyer speed figure was posted at 7F on a synthetic surface; 4-0-1-1 career record without blinkers as they are removed for this.   War Classic Set the pace in latest at longer posting a new Beyer Top on wet footing; cutting back to 1 Mile may help him carry that gate speed longer for this; the 2-back winner and runner-up Beyered 86-74 in next-out BEL-MSW and optional-claiming wins; know him early then hopes to find missing stamina late.   Win Exchange Took the front wraps off for last then responded with a career-best Beyer at today's distance on GP grass; adds to the pace in this event hoping to steal this one up top; the 2-back winner repeated in a GP-16K claimer with a 78 Beyer; the 3-back winner Beyered 84 taking a next-out AP alw. victory.   Main Man Mike Blinkers on is a high-win percentage angle for his trainer; the 1st race off the claim saw him utilize front wraps on for the 1st time as he raced well in defeat chasing the runner-up finisher who Beyered 66 in his next-out GP-20K-maiden-claiming graduation; the 2-back winner repeated in an AQU-OPC with a 75 speed figure; main concern is doubling the price tag while trying to pass the class test.   To Dare Is to Do Was outfinsihed at today's distance in last; finding kick in deep stretch has been the drawback in several of his defeats; the 2-back winner repeated with a 78 Beyer taking a GP-16K-claimer; the 3-back winner repeated in a MED-OPC event with a 78 speed figure.   Anmaat Sire is 0-for-6 with 1st-turf starters; 2-for-8 with 1st-time starters; is out of an unraced dam; 2 foals to race are winless racing in England; steady worktab on display for a trainer who has been superb since 2013 when debuting a runner in a maiden claimer (2-for-6).   Sampson County Main Track Only entry gets blinkers back on for an 83%-win trainer with this angle since 2013; the hood produced a career-best Beyer in October on dirt but showed nothing 2-back with blinkers over today's GP green or 3-back on BEL dirt; overall have mixed feelings.   Wake Up and Go Sire is 72-for-527 with 1st-turf starters; 86-for-686 with 1st-time starters; is out of an 8-0-0-2 dam (17K) who went 6-0-0-2 on turf; 3 of 5 foals to race are winners; 3 are grass victors including stakes-placed 175K-turfer Sunny Relations (4-for-20 grass).   Bythe Grace of God Sire is 2-for-33 with 1st-turf starters; 1-for-48 with 1st-time starters; is out of an unraced dam; 4 of 5 foals to race are winners including full-sibling Andysun (9-for-38, 151K); 2 foals to race on turf are 0-for-9 combined.   Facundo Main Track Only entry posted his 1st-ever exacta finish on dirt 6 days ago when clearly 2nd best more than 8 lengths clear of the show runner; forgive his turf loss 2-back defeated by the winner who repeated in a GP-75K event with an 80 Beyer; his dirt loss 3-back saw the show runner Beyer 76 when graduating next out in a CRC-MSW event. - Art Gropper
