Gulfstream: Bold Summit could control pace
Bold Summit has a chance to control the pace in Thursday’s eighth race, an optional $12,500 claiming first-level allowance for 3-year-olds and up at six furlongs.
Bold Summit appears to have more natural speed than most of his rivals and he also is a fresh horse, making his first start since May 5. Bold Summit set the pace and finished sixth in his most recent out, an optional $16,000 claiming race at six furlongs that went in a quick 1:09.80. The winner, Requite, returned to capture the Big Cypress Handicap at Gulfstream with a career-high Beyer Speed Figure of 92.
On July 5 at Gulfstream, Bold Summit worked a half-mile in 47 seconds, the fastest of 38 at the distance.
Bold Summit will break from the outside post in the field of eight, and if he does not show the way the draw could give jockey Harry Hernandez the option of tracking the rail-drawn Sarlef, a front-running maiden special weight winner two starts ago at Gulfstream.
Fernando Abreu trains Bold Summit for Waterford Stable.
