Gulfstream backside worker severely injured in non-racing related incident

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Transito Salazar, a hot walker for trainer Peter Walder, sustained head injuries when he allegedly fell from the third-floor balcony of one of the dormitories at Gulfstream Park early Sunday morning.

Walder said Salazar is at nearby Aventura Hospital..

“According to the nurse I spoke with in the ICU at the hospital, he is in stable condition but his injuries are life threatening,” said Walder, who on Saturday sent out Force Freeze to win the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Sprint Championship in impressive fashion. “At the moment I’m not sure exactly what happened because I’ve heard several conflicting stories. It’s just an unfortunate way to end what had been a great day for all of us at the barn.”

Gulfstream Park officials said they could not comment on the incident since it is currently under investigation by the Hallandale Police Department.
