Gulfstream and Calder in conflict on Saturday

The 10-race Summit of Speed program will run in direct conflict with a live card to be held just across town at Gulfstream on Saturday, with first post at both tracks scheduled for 12:50 p.m. It will mark the first direct conflict between the two south Florida Thoroughbred facilities this summer.

Saturday’s eight-race program at Gulfstream was drawn late Wednesday afternoon and lured a total of 56 entries. Calder officials imposed a “restricted access policy” on horses stabled at its track earlier this week, prohibiting horses who run at Gulfstream from returning without permission from racing secretary Mike Anifantis.

Both Gulfstream and Calder are scheduled to run live programs on Sunday, with entries for both those cards to be drawn on Thursday.
