Gulfstream Park will unveil a revised racing schedule beginning this weekend that includes live racing on Mondays over the next eight weeks of the Royal Palm meeting, along with a quartet of new wagers that offer a fan-friendly 15 percent takeout.
Live racing will be offered on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays through August 31. The inaugural Monday card on July 13 will feature the unveiling of three of the four new wagers, a mandatory payout of the 20-cent Rainbow 6 with estimated pools of six figures, food and drink specials throughout the property, along with giveaways and a $500 drawing before the final race on the card.
Post time for all live racing programs throughout the summer remains 12:20 p.m.
The new wagers that begin with Monday’s card and which will be offered on a daily basis throughout the meet include a $3 Late Pick 3 on the last three races on the card; a $5 late Daily Double on the final two races of the day; and the $1 Place Pick 8, in which the player must select either the winner or second-place finisher in the final eight races of the day, with a 100 percent carryover of the net pool when there are no winners.
A fourth new wager, the Summer Sweep Pick 5, will be launched the following Monday, July 20. This will be a multi-track Pick 5 hosted by Gulfstream designed exclusively for retail customers that also offers 100 percent of the net carryover if no ticket correctly selects all five winners. The Summer Sweep Pick 5, to be available on Mondays only, features Gulfstream races along with rotating partner tracks that include Woodbine, Fort Erie, Horseshoe Indianapolis, Parx, and Emerald Downs.
There will be nine races on Monday’s card, four of which are scheduled for the turf, weather permitting. This includes the headliner that goes as the fourth race of the day and which serves as the opening leg of the Rainbow 6 sequence.
The fourth-race allowance for females age 3 and up will go a mile on the grass, weather permitting, and has lured a field of seven. The entrants are topped by a pair of stakes-placed 3-year-olds, Bayou Brigid and Spicy Princess, along with the 5-year-old Calathea. She had a three-race winning streak – all on Tapeta – snapped with a third-place finish over the main track in her most recent start on June 7.
