Guitar Solo was all heart turning back Freeburn to win the $100,000 fillies division of the Louisiana Futurity on Sunday at Fair Grounds.  Earlier on the card, Stovall scored an upset victory in the $100,000 colts and geldings division, though it was the filly who posted the faster six-furlong time.  Guitar Solo debuted Nov. 30 at Delta Downs and won a five-furlong Louisiana-bred maiden race by more than 14 lengths, earning a flashy 83 Beyer Speed Figure. The strong showing apparently took a little starch out of Guitar Solo less than two weeks later, when she set the pace and faded to third in the Louisiana Champions Day Lassie.   If Guitar Solo didn’t surpass her maiden win, she at least ran back to it Sunday. Making the lead under Corey Lanerie, Guitar Solo volleyed for front-end supremacy racing inside Freeburn, who had a narrow advantage through a half-mile in 45.72. But after cornering into the homestretch, it was Guitar Solo doing the better work as she pulled away from Freeburn on the way to a 2 1/4-length win.  :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! Platinum Minit finished third, three quarters of a length in front of Freeburn and a nose ahead of 17-10 favorite Clearly a Test. Allen Landry trains Guitar Solo for her breeder, World War IV Racing. The filly is by Star Guitar and out of Tony’s Triumph, by Grand Appointment.  Just like Guitar Solo in the Champions Day Lassie, Carpis regressed after a strong debut win as Stovall ran him down to win the colts and geldings division. Stovall was coming off a 37 1/2-length defeat in the Champions Day Juvenile and had demonstrated a tendency to fade late in his races after showing speed. Sunday was different, as Stovall stalked the pace and resolutely wore down pacesetting Carpis to win by a half-length. Tdzshiniluckystar was third, 1 1/4 lengths behind Carpis.  Stovall was timed in 1:11.54 and paid $22.60. Trained by Sam Breaux for Clyde Moran and Jeff Plotkin, Stovall is by Half Ours out of Cherub Heart, by Dehere. Current connections claimed him for $12,500 out of his career debut in late August.  :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
