HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Gufo, a divisional turf standout in each of his last three seasons of racing, was sent through his first workout in several months when breezing an easy three furlongs Sunday at trainer Christophe Clement’s winter base of Payson Park. Gufo, a 6-year-old horse by Declaration of War, could return to action at Gulfstream Park in the Pan American on April 1, the same Grade 2 race that kicked off a 2022 campaign in which he earned $938,020 from seven starts for his owner, Otter Bend Stables. In all, Gufo has won nearly $2.2 million from 21 races. ◗ Mage, a 3-year-old Good Magic colt owned in a four-way partnership that includes trainer Gustavo Delgado, made an auspicious debut on Pegasus Day in winning the second race, a seven-furlong maiden-special, after speeding to an early lead under Edgar Perez. He earned an 89 Beyer Speed Figure in a 3 3/4-length triumph. ◗ Star European jockey Frankie Dettori stayed in South Florida after riding in 11 races last week at Gulfstream and intends to fulfill his mount in the sixth race Thursday on Musical Design for trainer Wesley Ward. Dettori then will return to Santa Anita, where he is based this winter. Dettori is named in three races there Friday and has a full slate Saturday. :: Get ready for Gulfstream Park racing with DRF Past Performances, Picks, and Clocker Reports.  ◗ Barring further complications, the quarantine still in effect at Barn 21 on the Gulfstream backstretch is due to be lifted Feb. 12, following a mandatory 21-day duration.
