Guarana being given break, won't race again this year

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Guarana, a three-time Grade 1-winning filly, won’t race again this year, trainer Chad Brown said Thursday.
“She had a setback, she’s going to need a 30-day break,” Brown said. “Unfortunately, the timing of it is terrible. No decision has been made on whether she will run again next year.”
Brown noticed Guarana was off following a July 25 workout at Saratoga, her first move since she won the Grade 1 Madison on July 11 at Keeneland.
Guarana, a 4-year-old daughter of Ghostzapper, is owned by Three Chimneys Farm and Hill ‘n Dale Farm. At 3, Guarana won the Grade 1 Acorn and Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks.
Overall, Guarana has won 5 of 6 starts and earned $1,078,268. Her only loss was a second-place finish to Street Band in the Grade 1 Cotillion at Parx Racing last September.

Meanwhile, Brown said that Dunbar Road, three-length winner of the Delaware Handicap on July 11, should return to the work tab soon to prepare for a fall campaign.
“She needed a little time exiting that Delaware race,” Brown said. “She had a minor issue. She’s 100 percent now and looking forward to getting her back on the work tab.”
Dunbar Road, a daughter of Quality Road owned by Peter Brant, won the Grade 1 Alabama and Grade 2 Mother Goose last year.
