Gross and average fall for Fasig-Tipton Midlantic yearling sale
The Fasig-Tipton Midlantic fall yearling sale, which was topped by a $210,000 Into Mischief filly, finished Tuesday with declines in its gross and average, but an improved median and buyback rate, both indicators of a solid middle market.
The two-day sale finished with 338 yearlings sold for total gross receipts of $7,318,700, marking a 7 percent decline in revenues from the 312 horses sold for $7,855,100 last year. The cumulative average price, $21,653, dropped 14 percent from $25,177 last year. The median finished at $15,000, edging up 7 percent from $14,000 last year.
The two-day buyback rate finished at 22 percent, improving from 29 percent for last year’s sale.
The $210,000 Into Mischief filly was sold to Three Diamonds Farm during Tuesday’s second and final session to top the auction. She was consigned by Candyland, as agent.
The Maryland-bred and Delaware-certified filly is the first foal out of the unraced Hard Spun mare Spin the Bottle, a half sister to Grade 3-placed Nathan's H Q.
Spin the Bottle's granddam, Ms. Cuvee Napa, is the dam of several stakes runners and producers. Her foals include Grade 2 winner Tasha's Miracle; Grade 2-placed Deb's Charm, a multiple stakes producer whose runners include stakes winners Praetero and Simply Spiteful; Harve de Grace, dam of Grade 1 winner Off the Tracks and Grade 2 winner Concord Point; stakes-placed Early Vintage, the dam of stakes winner Conquest Top Gun; and Tasha's Star, dam of stakes winner Esmeraldina.
