Grooms All Bizness became a stakes winner Sunday when he rallied into hot fractions for a three-quarter-length victory over 4-5 favorite Our Shot in the $100,000 Get Serious at Monmouth Park.
It was another two lengths back in third to Alogon.
The stakes, which was run over five furlongs on firm turf, was for 3-year-olds and up.
Grooms All Bizness ($14) sat in fourth in the early stages of the Get Serious, racing behind the dueling trio of Full Disclosure, Just Jeremy and That’s Right. The leaders ripped through a posted opening quarter of 20.90 seconds, while the half-mile went in 43.70 seconds. Grooms All Bizness came four wide into the stretch, moved past the leaders, then held off a surging Our Shot to win in a blazing 55.46 seconds.
Angel Rodriguez was aboard for trainer Jorge Duarte Jr.
Grooms All Bizness has now registered all four of his career wins on the turf course at Monmouth. He is a son of Fed Biz who races for his breeders, Colts Neck Stables.
Duarte noted before the race a stakes win would be important for the horse, who hails from a strong female family. Grooms All Bizness became the first stakes winner for his dam, Bride to Be. She is a daughter of Cat Chat, a Grade 2 winner who produced the Grade 1 winner In Lingerie. Cat Chat's dam is Phone Chatter, winner of the 1993 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.
Grooms All Bizness has now made 11 starts and has earnings of $248,775.
