Greg Avioli resigns as Breeders' Cup CEO

DRF Staff|Mar 04, 2011

Greg Avioli, the president and CEO of Breeders' Cup Limited, resigned on Friday to take a position with a new racing and gaming company, according to a release from Breeders' Cup.

The Breeders' Cup board will meet next week to discuss interim leadership and how it will choose the organization’s next CEO, Breeders' Cup chairman Bill Farish said in the release.

Avioli leaves the Breeders' Cup after nearly five years as the organization's chief executive. During his time as chief executive, Breeders' Cup expanded its Breeders' Cup World Championships from eight races on one day to 14 races on two days. Wagering, attendance, revenue and television ratings increased during Avioli's term as chief executive, the release said.
