Greenhill loaded for pair of Indiana-sired stakes
Trainer Jeff Greenhill has two strong entries in the stakes Wednesday at Indiana Grand Race Course. Greenhill sends out the coupling of Express Model and Naked Bootleg in the $85,000-added Swiftly Sired Fillies for 3-year-old Indiana-sired fillies. He has Union Express and Indiana Express, who should be the post-time favorites in the $85,000-added Sagamore Sired for 3-year-old Indiana-sired males.
Express Model won two races last season, her maiden July 24 and the Indiana Stallion Stakes on Sept. 24. This season, Express Model is winless in three attempts, but two of those tries were in open stakes.
Owned by Hillerich Racing LLC, Express Model finished third in the $120,000 Silverbulletday at Fair Grounds on Jan. 18 going a mile and 70 yards. She then finished fifth in the Grade 3 Rachel Alexandra at the same track Feb. 22 going 1 1/16 miles. After a freshening, she finished fifth in an optional-claiming race at Churchill Downs on May 2 going seven furlongs.
The return to Indiana-sired company and six furlongs should get her to the winner’s circle. James Graham retains the mount.
Naked Bootleg is owned by Greenhill’s wife, Sherri, and will be ridden by Lori Wydick. In her last out May 24, Naked Bootleg won a maiden race locally going a mile.
The Swiftly Sired drew a field of 12, including four entries.
Should Greenhill’s entrants fail to fire, trainer Tommy Short sends out at least two and maybe three fillies. Deliver won her maiden race locally last June and finished second in the $100,000 Mountaineer Juvenile Fillies on Aug. 3. She banked more than $71,000 as a 2-year-old and has a pair of bullet works for her 2014 debut. Dylan Davis retains the mount.
Short also entered Second Hand Justice, with Malcolm Franklin aboard, and Platinum Justice, who is one of two also-eligibles.
Full gate for Sagamore
Greenhill sends out Indiana Express and Union Express in the Sagamore Sired. Union Express won his maiden race May 6 locally after four unsuccessful attempts at Fair Grounds. In his last out, he finished second, beaten a neck, in an entry-level allowance race after having trouble at the start. Union Express is owned by Naveed Chowan and will be ridden by Graham.
Indiana Express won his maiden Feb. 9 at Fair Grounds. He most recently finished third in a statebred allowance race May 6. Indiana Express is owned by the Ed Wright Cattle Co. and will be ridden by Franklin.
My Crafty Friend returns to Indiana, where he won two of three last season. He won at first asking Aug. 24, then won the Crown Ambassador on Sept. 23. In two outings this season, he finished fourth and sixth in a pair of open optional-claiming races at Hawthorne and Arlington Park.
Alejandro Contreras will ride for trainer Scott Mullins.
A full field of 12 was drawn for the six-furlong Sagamore, including two entries. There are two also-eligibles.
