Green Mask wins the 2017 Troy Handicap
Debra A. Roma Green Mask nearly sets a new track record winning the Troy Handicap on Sunday.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Green Mask earned his second consecutive 110 Beyer Speed Figure for his victory in Sunday’s $250,000 Troy Handicap at Saratoga and will now target one more race before the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint at Del Mar on Nov. 4.

Green Mask won the Troy by 1 1/2 lengths and covered 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:00.49, just 0.03 seconds off Lady Shipman’s course record. Green Mask also earned a 110 Beyer when he won the Highlander Stakes at Woodbine on July 2.

Trainer Brad Cox said Green Mask came out of the race in good order.

“Last night, we grazed him a little bit and brought him back in,” Cox said. “He was bright-eyed, he wasn’t hanging his head or anything, so he looks amazing and seems to be in a good place right now.” Cox said he would look at either the $150,000 Belmont Sprint Invitational at six furlongs on Oct. 7 or the Grade 2, $200,000 Woodford Stakes at Keeneland the same day for Green Mask’s next start.

“Running five-eighths of a mile at Del Mar, we want to make sure he’s sharp, so I think it might be best if we do get a race into him,” Cox said. “He appears to be as good as he’s ever been, judging by the way he’s running and his numbers.”

Limited View possible for Adirondack

Limited View has had a pretty good couple of days, and if things continue to go well, the 2-year-old filly will run in Saturday’s Grade 2, $200,000 Adirondack Stakes at Saratoga.

Limited View was scratched from the opening-day Schuylerville Stakes when she became agitated in the paddock and could not be saddled.

Trainer John Salzman Jr. has been trying to get the filly calmed, but it’s been a project. Last Saturday, Salzman took her to the paddock and said Limited View “behaved rather well.”

On Monday, Salzman took Limited View to the starting gate, and “she was excellent,” he said.

Salzman plans one more schooling session for Limited View on Wednesday morning, and if all goes well, he’ll enter the filly Wednesday afternoon.

“I’m not going to make a decision until the last minute,” Salzman said. “If everything keeps going forward, we’ll put her in and hope for the best.”

Others pointing to the Adirondack are Di Maria, Proportionality, Pure Silver, Southhampton Way, and Sly Roxy.
