Green Carrera, a winner at Royal Ascot, has a Grade 1 race at Del Mar on her summer calendar.
Tim Cohen, who directs the Rancho Temescal partnership that co-owns the filly, said on Sunday that Green Carrera will be pointed for the $300,000 Del Mar Oaks at 1 1/8 miles on turf on Aug. 22. Trained in Ireland by Joseph O’Brien, Green Carrera is scheduled to start in the Cairn Rouge Stakes at about a mile at Killarney Racecourse on July 15 before being sent to trainer Leonard Powell in California, Cohen said.
On June 19, Green Carrera won for the third time in her sixth start in the Sandringham Stakes for 3-year-old fillies on a straightaway mile. Green Carrera closed from off the pace to win by two lengths in a 30-runner field.
“It was kind of an out-of-body experience,” Cohen said of the victory.
Rancho Temescal co-owns Green Carrera with Farfellow Farms and the Chivalry Thoroughbred Racing partnership. They acquired the filly privately in the week before the Sandringham from Simon Munir and Isaac Souede, prominent owners of steeplechase runners in Europe. O’Brien has trained Green Carrera throughout her career.
“We purchased her because we thought she’d do well on firm ground,” Cohen said.
Prior to the Sandringham, Green Carrera won a 12-runner handicap for 3-year-old fillies at a mile at the Curragh on May 26.
Take A Breath, a two-time Grade 3 winner at Santa Anita this year for the Rancho Temescal and Chivalry Racing partnerships, is expected to start in the Grade 2 Yellow Ribbon Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on turf at Del Mar on Aug. 8, Cohen said.
Trained by Mark Glatt, Take A Breath was third by four lengths at 10-1 in the Grade 1 Gamely Stakes at Santa Anita on May 25.
