Greeley and Ben may return to Oaklawn

Greeley and Ben, who was claimed last meet at Oaklawn Park and now ranks as North America’s co-winningest horse of 2021, could return to Arkansas during the current meet, according to his trainer, Karl Broberg.
Greeley and Ben won nine straight races earlier this year, and in his most recent start Nov. 25 was second in the $150,000 Thanksgiving Classic at Fair Grounds. The horse’s next move is to be determined.
“We’re just kind of playing it by ear,” Broberg said. “There’s races at Oaklawn that make sense. There’s the five-furlong stakes at Delta around the first week of January, and there’s a stakes at the end of January at Sam Houston. There’s a bunch of different ways we can go.”
Broberg trainee Flash of Mischief will see stakes action Saturday at Oaklawn in the $150,000 Poinsettia for 3-year-olds. He is coming off a win over older rivals in the Delta Downs Mile. Flash of Mischief faces a field that includes millionaire Super Stock.
Flash of Mischief races for his breeder, Jerry Namy.
Broberg owns Greeley and Ben, a horse he claimed for $10,000 at Oaklawn. The horse has won a total of 11 races this year. The only other horse to win as many in North America is Shinny, according Equibase standings. Shinny won his ninth straight race in his last start Nov. 24 at Turf Paradise. He is trained by Oaklawn regular Robertino Diodoro.
