Greeley and Ben goes for 10 in a row in allowance

Greeley and Ben, who leads all horses in North America in wins in 2021, will be chasing after his 10th consecutive victory Wednesday night at Remington Park.
The horse, who this year has won 11 races, is entered in a no-conditions allowance for 3-year-olds and up over six furlongs. It has a purse of $40,000. The race is slated as the fifth on a nine-race card.
Greeley and Ben’s rivals include multiple stakes winners Mr Money Bags and Direct Dial, as well as Empire of Gold, who was fourth in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Sprint.
Greeley and Ben defeated some of them last out in the $150,000 David M. Vance on Sept. 26 at Remington. The 7-year-old was making his stakes debut, and locked up his ninth consecutive win in a streak that started in April.
“How cool was that?” said Karl Broberg, who owns and trains Greeley and Ben.
“I think one of the things that has kept him as good as he has been this year, winning more races than any other horse in the country, is keeping him in soft spots as well. You can’t consistently keep stepping into the deep waters.”
Broberg, who claimed Greeley and Ben for $10,000 in March at Oaklawn, has run him in a number of starter allowances in 2021.
The trainer, who is highly active in the claiming game, said Greeley and Ben ranks as one of the best claims of his career, alongside Hunka Burning Love, a $32,000 claim who has won four stakes.
“Those two jump off the page,” Broberg said.
Greeley and Ben is 11 for 14 this year. Free to Fly and Six Ninety One each rank second in 2021 wins with 10, according to Equibase.
Greeley and Ben will break from post 3 under David Cabrera.
The card also includes a no-conditions allowance for 3-year-olds and up over 7 1/2 furlongs on turf. It drew stakes winners Sunlit Song, Tut’s Revenge, and Carlea’s Dream.
