Great Lakes track report

MUSKEGON, Mich. - Terry Houghton, Great Lakes Downs's leading rider and second in the nation in wins, was transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Detroit for additional testing on Tuesday.

Houghton, hospitalized with a severe concussion after a spill on Aug. 25, said that he did not yet have a date to return to riding.

"Four doctors - four opinions," he said Monday evening from his Muskegon hospital bed. "I hope to have an answer after talking to the specialists back home. I want to get back as soon as I can."

Houghton holds a 175-112 lead over Freddie Mata at Great Lakes and is clinging to second place in the nation with 253 wins this year, 16 behind Russell Baze through Tuesday's racing.

Mata and Mary Doser, third locally, both had riding triples on Sunday. Doser's three winners were for trainer Richard Rettele. Rettele, atop the trainer standings, had four wins on the card.

Wade Rini, Bob Cummings, and Joe Judice all began riding here in the past week. Rini and Cummings are here for the meet, while Judice is expected to stay for two weeks.
