Great Lakes track report

MUSKEGON, Mich. - Allan Plever has joined Great Lakes Downs as racing secretary, following the sudden resignation of Frank Stacks.

Stacks, who is currently practicing equine dentistry here, will be leaving soon for a position in the racing office at Sunland Park.

Plever, also the racing secretary at Sportsman's Park, served in that position at Detroit Race Course for many years before that track ceased operations in 1998. Plever, who owns a home in Muskegon, has served as a jockey agent at this oval in the past.

Announcer Matt Hook was named as Plever's assistant. Hook also has worked at the track as an entry clerk and as a jockey's agent.

* Hugo Leonardi returned to training this week after keeping the horses he owned with trainers Gerry Bennett and Dave Kesler. He visited the winner's circle for the first time in his comeback when Salina's Regal Luck won the sixth race, an allowance event, on Tuesday evening with jockey Octavio Bernal.

* Terry Houghton, currently second in the national rider standings with 237 wins, and Bennett traveled to Mountaineer Park last Saturday to win the Harvey Arneault Memorial Stakes with Secret Romeo, a local champion at both 2 and 3.

Secret Romeo looked like a beaten horse at the eighth pole, but Houghton hustled him outside of horses and the pair was up to win by three-quarters of a length.
