Great expectations for Getta Good Feeling in Australasian Oaks

Steve Andersen|Apr 22, 2026

Getta Good Feeling was an accomplished filly in Australia in the later months of 2025, winning two Group 2 races and finishing third in a Group 1 for 3-year-old fillies at a mile.

This year, Getta Good Feeling has a perfect record in two starts, leading to high expectations for her third start of the year in Saturday’s Group 1 Australasian Oaks at 1 1/4 miles for Southern Hemisphere 3-year-old fillies at Morphettville Racecourse in Adelaide.

The $716,200 Australasian Oaks is one of two Group 1 races on the Morphettville program, along with the $716,200 Robert Sangster Stakes for fillies and mares at six furlongs.

Getta Good Feeling will be favored against as many as 15 rivals in the Australasian Oaks on the basis of her two recent wins - the Inglis Sprint at six furlongs against males at Flemington on Feb. 28 and the Group 3 Alexandra Stakes at a mile against 3-year-old fillies at Caulfield Racecourse on March 21.

In both victories, Getta Good Feeling closed from off the pace. The Australasian Oaks will be her first start at 1 1/4 miles since a win in the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes at Flemington in November.

Gotta Good Feeling, who was held out of the major stakes at tracks in Sydney in recent weeks in favor of the Australasian Oaks, is trained by Danny O’Brien, who won the 2019 Melbourne Cup with Vow and Declare.

Salty Pearl, third by less than a half-length in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at 1 1/4 miles at Rosehill Gardens on March 21, can win the Australasian Oaks with her customary stalking trip. The Vinery Stud Stakes was Salty Pearl’s first start at 1 1/4 miles.

Salty Pearl won a lucrative one-mile stakes for runners bred in the state of Victoria at Caulfield on March 14. She had a busy March, beginning with a third-place finish by 4 1/2 lengths in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes at a mile at Flemington Racecourse on March 7.

Sangster Stakes

The Southern Hemisphere 3-year-old filly Point Barrow will race outside of her age group for the second time this year in the Sangster Stakes. Under the weight-for-age conditions, Point Barrow will carry 120 pounds compared to 124.5 pounds for most of the other 15 runners.

Point Barrow has won 5 of 8 starts. She was fifth of 13 as the 5-2 favorite in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate against males at 5 1/2 furlongs at Caulfield on Feb. 21, closing from 11th to lose by 4 1/4 lengths. Point Barrow rebounded to win the Group 3 Don Casboult Classic for 3-year-old fillies at six furlongs at Caulfield on March 21.

In the Sangster Stakes, Point Barrow’s leading rivals are Skybird and Charm Stone, who were not beaten far in recent Group 1 sprints against males. Skybird was third by a length in the $2.08 million T.J. Smith Stakes at six furlongs at Royal Randwick Racecourse in Sydney on April 4, while Charm Stone was fourth by slightly more than three-quarters of a length in the $702,300 William Reid Stakes at six furlongs at Caulfield on March 21.

The Australasian Oaks has a post time of 2:42 a.m. Eastern on Saturday. The Sangster Stakes follows the Australasian Oaks.
