Cosmonaut, a multiple Grade 3 winner, has been relocated to Old Friends at Cabin Creek in Greenfield Center, N.Y. The 16-year-old son of Lemon Drop Kid had been pensioned from stud duty after standing the 2016 breeding season at Keane Stud in Amenia, N.Y. Bred in Kentucky by Patricia Pavlish, Cosmonaut earned Grade 3 stakes wins at age 4 in the Golden Gate Fields Handicap and the Arlington Handicap. The horse returned at 5 to finish second in the Grade 2 Dixie Stakes at Pimlico and later successfully defended his title in the Arlington Handicap. He finished the 2007 season with a second in the Shadwell Turf Mile, a third in the Breeders’ Cup Mile at Monmouth Park, and a second in the Grade 3 River City Handicap at Churchill. At 6, Cosmonaut won the listed Tampa Bay Stakes and finished second in the Arlington Handicap. At 7, his final season, he won the Grade 3 Fort Marcy Stakes and ran third in the Arlington Handicap. In total, Cosmonaut won eight of 36 starts for earnings of $1,397,723. He won five stakes races and finished in the money in eight other stakes. Cosmonaut began his stallion career in 2010 at Highcliff Farm in Delanson, N.Y. He has sired six crops of racing age, with 39 winners and progeny earnings in excess of $3 million. His standout runner is Wonderment, who won the Grade 3 Bourbonette Oaks.
