LEXINGTON, Ky. – Multiple graded winners Restless Rider and Royal Charlotte are among the 3-year-old fillies being pointed to the Grade 2, $250,000 Raven Run, the highlight of a quartet of stakes races next week at Keeneland. Restless Rider, unraced since the Kentucky Oaks, and Royal Charlotte, whose connections have chosen to bypass the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint, will head a field of at least eight in the seven-furlong Raven Run, to be run for the 21st time next Saturday. Restless Rider, winner of the Grade 1 Alcibiades here last fall for trainer Kenny McPeek, has raced just twice this year, finishing second by a neck in the Grade 1 Ashland before being soundly defeated in the Kentucky Oaks. Royal Charlotte, trained by Chad Brown, owns five wins from six starts, including victories in the Grade 3 Victory Ride and Grade 2 Prioress. Other confirmed starters are Bell’s the One, First Star, Horologist, Indian Pride, Needs Supervision, and Oxy Lady. Entries will be drawn Wednesday. Last year, Shamrock Rose won the Raven Run before wheeling back two weeks later to upset the BC Filly and Mare Sprint at 25-1. As for the other stakes, all Grade 3 events on the turf: ◗ $150,000 Sycamore (Thursday): Brown will be represented by Focus Group, winner of the Grade 2 Pan American in late March, in a 1 1/2-mile race also expected to get Marzo, Nakamura, Postulation, Space Mountain, Surprise Twist, Zumurudee, and probably a few more older horses. ◗ $150,000 Valley View (Friday): Carnival Colors and Maxim Rate both were issued invitations to the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup, but were withheld instead for this 1 1/16-mile race and will face the Brown trio of Blowout, Catch a Bid, and Turf War among a sizable field of 3-year-old fillies. ◗ $125,000 Dowager (Sunday): Gaining, an overseas group winner still seeking her first North American victory after coming close in all four attempts, is among the known prospects for this filly-mare counterpart to the Sycamore, along with Gentle Ruler, Get Explicit, Lafta, Pantsonfire, and Sea Dream. After the Dowager, only the Grade 2, $200,000 Fayette on closing day (Oct. 26) will remain on the stakes schedule. Churchill Downs starts its fall meet Oct. 27.
