Honour and Glory, a Grade 1 winner by Relaunch who has stood the last five years in Uruguay, died on Tuesday at Haras Rapetti stud farm in Uruguay after fracturing his femur, according to South American news reports. The stallion was 25. Honour and Glory won four graded stakes, including the 1996 Metropolitan Mile, during two seasons of racing, retiring with a record of six wins from 17 starts. He was the early pacesetter in the 1996 Kentucky Derby before finishing 18th. As a stallion, Honour and Glory has sired 71 black-type winners worldwide. He shuttled between Ashford Stud in the U.S. and two countries in the Southern Hemisphere, Australia and Argentina, for 12 years before being permanently relocated to Haras Rapetti in Uruguay. Honor and Glory was purchased by Demi O’Byrne, an agent for Ashford’s parent company, Coolmore, for $410,000 at the 1995 Barrett’s March 2-year-olds in-training sale. He was sold as a yearling for $125,000 before being pinhooked to the Barretts sale. :: DRF BREEDING LIVE: Real-time coverage of breeding and sales
