Governor's the latest stop for Bound to Be M V P

Dennis Dodge|Feb 16, 2008

PORTLAND, Ore. - Bound to Be M V P will head a field of 10 older sprinters, most with designs on the $40,000 Portland Meadows Mile on March 10, in Monday's renewal of the $20,000 Governor's Speed Handicap at six furlongs.

Bound to Be M V P, a 5-year-old son of Snowbound who races for Brad Case and Carmel Balcom, will be making his first start at Portland Meadows after racing 11 times at tracks from Edmonton to Los Angeles. The well-traveled gray posted all four of his wins, including a victory in the Ladnesian Stakes as a juvenile, at Hastings Park in Vancouver, British Columbia. He ran third to Too Much Bling in the 2006 San Miguel at Santa Anita, and he is coming off a pacesetting fifth-place effort against $100,000 optional claimers at Hollywood Park on Dec. 18. Bound to Be M V P has worked once over the Portland oval for trainer Bruce Johnson, who has named Troy Stillwell to ride at 121 pounds.

Bound to Be M V P will concede highweight honors to local stars Rockinstomper and Mystic Wood, both of whom will carry 123 pounds. Rockinstomper won both the Inaugural Handicap and the Mt. Hood here before shipping in November to Turf Paradise, where he registered a pair of thirds from four starts against stakes company. Mystic Wood has won 3 of 6 starts at the meet, including a 2 1/2-length score in an invitational handicap at six furlongs in his last start on Jan. 27.PORTLAND, Ore. - Bound to Be M V P will head a field of 10 older sprinters, most with designs on the $40,000 Portland Meadows Mile on March 10, in Monday's renewal of the $20,000 Governor's Speed Handicap at six furlongs.
