Got Stormy takes on the boys again in Jaipur

ELMONT, N.Y. – Last year, the mare Oleksandra beat the boys in the Grade 1 Jaipur.
On June 5, when Oleksandra goes for a repeat in that race, she is expected to have another female in the starting gate with her in Got Stormy.
Trainer Mark Casse said Wednesday that Got Stormy is pointing to the six-furlong Jaipur, which is a Win and You’re In race for the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint in November at Del Mar.

Got Stormy, a nine-time stakes winner, has taken on the boys in the past, having defeated them in the Grade 1 Fourstardave at Saratoga in 2019.
Last year, Got Stormy found a new lease on life sprinting on turf, winning a pair of stakes and finishing fifth, beaten just two lengths in the BC Turf Sprint.
Casse said that by cutting Got Stormy back to six furlongs, he doesn’t have to be concerned about the condition of the turf course. To get a mile, Casse has repeatedly said, Got Stormy needs rock-hard turf.

“For her, going three-quarters, she doesn’t mind give in it then,” Casse said. “She can’t go a mile if there’s give in it.”
Meanwhile, Oleksandra hasn’t won since she captured the Jaipur over super-firm turf here last June. On Sunday, Oleksandra worked five furlongs in 1:00.15 over the Belmont turf, her third consecutive workout here.
