Got Stormy dominates Ontario Colleen

ETOBICOKE, Ontario — Got Stormy dominated the opposition as the clear-cut favorite in Saturday’s $125,500 Ontario Colleen, winning the Grade 3 stakes comfortably under Patrick Husbands.
Got Stormy pressed a slow pace from a three-wide position on the turn in the one-mile event. She assumed command early in the stretch, and then coasted home on top by two lengths, in a time of 1:34.59 over the firm turf.
A.A. Azula’s Arch finished second at 8-1, as 54-1 pacesetter Ladies Night weakened to third in the eight-horse field of 3-year-old fillies.
Husbands said he got a phone call from trainer Mark Casse regarding pre-race instructions. They combined to win last year’s Colleen with Enstone.
“He told me she’s a very keen filly, very tough,” Husbands said. “(I wondered) how I was going to get her to relax on that long backstretch, but she relaxed today. She ran back to her turf form. The last two races that she won, she won pretty easy. She showed that she was the best today.”
Got Stormy ($3.20) earned $75,000 for Gary Barber, who is the Woodbine meet’s leading owner in money won. Most of the approximately $218,000 wagered to show on the race was riding on the daughter of Get Stormy.
