Got Stormy among 28 nominees to Woodbine Mile

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - The brilliant 4-year-old filly Got Stormy is among the 28 nominees to the $1 million Woodbine Mile, a Grade 1 turf event on Sept. 14 that is one of the highlights of the 133-day meet.
Got Stormy won two Saratoga stakes that were just a week apart in August, most notably the Grade 1 Fourstardave against the boys. She’s been pointed to the Woodbine Mile by trainer by Mark Casse, who won back-to-back runnings of the race with Tepin and World Approval in 2016-17. Casse also nominated Curlin’s Honor and March to the Arch.
Chad Brown, North America’s leading trainer, nominated Grade 1 Summer winner Fog of War, Raging Bull, and the unbeaten 3-year-old Valid Point, who took the Grade 1 Secretariat at Arlington.
The versatile Grade 1 Belmont Derby victor Catholic Boy was nominated by trainer Jonathan Thomas. He won the Grade 2 Dixie on the grass at Pimlico, and is coming off a second in the Grade 2 Suburban on the dirt at Belmont.
Among the other nominees are Canadian champion Mr Havercamp, who won the Grade 3 Forbidden Apple over a quality field at Saratoga; the European stalwart Stormy Antarctic, who wound up third behind Oscar Performance and Mr Havercamp in last year’s Woodbine Mile; and the Stronach Stable runners American Guru and Silent Poet, who won the local prep, the Grade 2 Play the King, in course-record time.
The Woodbine Mile is a Breeders’ Cup Win and You’re In qualifier for the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Mile at Santa Anita Nov. 2.
