Gosden has three for Prix de Royallieu
A day before the world-famous mare Enable attempts to win an unprecedented third consecutive Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp Racecourse in Paris on Sunday, her stablemate Lah Ti Dar runs in Saturday’s Group 1 Prix de Royallieu for fillies and mares at Longchamp.
Lah Ti Dar, third behind Enable in the Yorkshire Oaks at York Racecourse on Aug. 22, is part of a competitive field in the $329,400 Prix de Royallieu, run at 1 3/4 miles on turf.
John Gosden, based in Newmarket, England, trains Enable, and has three of the nine runners in the Prix de Royallieu, including Enbihaar, who won the Group 2 Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster on Sept. 12 for her third consecutive stakes win, and Anapurna, who won the Group 1 English Oaks in May, but was seventh in her only subsequent start in the Group 1 Prix Vermeille at Longchamp on Sept. 15.
Enbihaar was the 2-1 future-book favorite as of Thursday, a slight choice over Musis Amica, who was second in the Prix Vermeille for trainer Andre Fabre.
There are five Group 1 or Group 2 stakes on Saturday’s Longchamp program. The richest race of the day is the Group 1 Prix du Cadran, a marathon test at 2 1/2 miles with a purse of $439,200.
Dee Ex Bee, second to the Gosden-trained star stayer Stradivarius in three consecutive Group 1 or Group 2 marathons in England since June, was the 11-10 favorite as of Thursday against nine rivals. Trained by Mark Johnston of England, Dee Ex Bee won two Group 3 races at two miles at Ascot and Sandown in May.
There are three Group 2 races worth $219,600 each on the program.
Line of Duty, third in the English Derby in June and third in the Prix du Moulin de Longchamp on Sept. 8, is the leading contender in the Prix Dollar at 1 3/16 miles over Skalleti, a winner of five straight races, including the Group 3 Prix Quincey at Deauville on Aug. 25.
Olmedo, fourth in the Prix du Moulin, will be favored against four rivals in the Prix Daniel Wildenstein at a mile. His main rival is Impulsif, who won the Group 3 Prix Messidor at Deauville on July 21.
The Prix Chaudenay for 3-year-olds at 1 7/8 miles is led by Dashing Willoughby, Nayef Road, and Moonlight Spirit, who were first, third and fourth in the Group 2 Queen’s Vase Stakes at 1 3/4 miles at Royal Ascot in June.
In recent starts, Nayef Road and Dashing Willoughby were third and seventh behind the Gosden-trained Logician in the English St. Leger on Sept. 14. Moonlight Spirit won the Group 3 Prix de Lutece at 1 7/8 miles at Longchamp on Sept. 1.
