Gormley gets back on the work tab

ARCADIA, Calif. – Gormley, a winner of two graded stakes in his last three starts, worked a half-mile in 47.80 seconds on Monday for a scheduled start in a major stakes for 3-year-olds in March.
Gormley is a candidate for the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita on March 11 or the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn Park on March 18. Both races are run at 1 1/16 miles.
Monday’s exercise was Gormley’s first workout in 10 days. Gormley has had three workouts this month, a schedule altered by wet conditions at Santa Anita.
“His works have been interrupted by the weather,” trainer John Shirreffs said.
Overall, Shirreffs said Gormley has had “no problems” maintaining fitness.
Owned by Jerry and Ann Moss, Gormley has won 3 of 4 starts. He won the Grade 1 FrontRunner Stakes at Santa Anita in October and finished seventh in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile on Nov. 5 in his final start at 2.
On Jan. 7, Gormley won the Grade 3 Sham Stakes at a mile at Santa Anita.
In other works on Monday, Kobe’s Back, a four-time graded-stakes-winning sprinter, worked six furlongs in 1:12.40. Trained by Peter Eurton, Kobe’s Back is scheduled to have his 2017 debut here in the Grade 1 Triple Bend Stakes, a $400,000 race at seven furlongs on March 11.
Noted and Quoted, who won the Grade 1 Chandelier Stakes for 2-year-olds fillies in October, worked six furlongs in 1:13.40. Trained by Bob Baffert, Noted and Quoted has not raced since finishing seventh in the BC Juvenile Fillies on Nov. 4.
Noted and Quoted was entered in the Grade 2 Santa Ynez Stakes for 3-year-old fillies last month but was withdrawn because of a wet track.
