Goodyearforroses possible for Gamely Stakes

ARCADIA, Calif. - Goodyearforroses, a three-time stakes winner at the Santa Anita winter-spring meeting, finished fifth in her Grade 1 debut in the $350,000 Jenny Wiley Stakes at Keeneland on Saturday. It will not be long before the 5-year-old mare starts in a similar race.
Trainer Richard Baltas said Sunday Goodyearforroses will be considered for the Grade 1 Gamely Stakes, a $300,000 race at 1 1/8 miles on turf at Santa Anita on May 27.
“I like the six weeks,” Baltas said.
In the Jenny Wiley at a mile, Gooodyearforroses closed from seventh to finish about 1 1/2 lengths behind race winner Dickinson.
Goodyearforroses missed third by a nose and a neck.
“We got shuffled back and that hurt her,” Baltas said. “It was a tough race. We were fifth and there were three Grade 1 winners behind us.”
The race was won by Dickinson. Goodyearforroses finished in front of Time and Motion, the winner of the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland last October; Illuminant, who won the 2016 Gamely, and Catch a Glimpse, the winner of the Belmont Oaks last July.
Owned by Abbondanza Racing, Goodyearforroses won the Robert Frankel Stakes in December, the Astra Stakes in February, and the Grade 2 Santa Ana Stakes in March.
