Goodoldhockeygame scores in Overskate Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Goodoldhockeygame upset the applecart in Saturday’s $126,200 Overskate Stakes at Woodbine, taking the seven-furlong sprint for Ontario-sired stock by a length over Ultimate Destiny.
Goodoldhockeygame was one of two 3-year-olds in the lineup, along with the favored Kingsport, who dueled with Marten Lake through quick fractions.
Goodoldhockeygame stalked four wide on the turn under Eurico Da Silva before looming into contention entering the stretch. He collared Kingsport with about a sixteenth left and then held sway to complete the distance in 1:22.72.
Sniper rallied from 10th to finish three-quarters of a length behind Ultimate Destiny in third, as Kingsport faded to sixth in the 11-horse field.
Goodoldhockeygame ($26.70) banked $75,000 for owner Frank DiGiulio Jr. and trainer Bob Tiller.
“He’s run well all year,” said Tiller. “The only bad race he had, I’d rather not talk about. At the end of the day, he got it done. I’m not surprised. I actually bet on him, and I don’t do that very often. The horse went into it in great shape, and he had a great trip.”
