Joe Labozzetta/NYRA Good Luck Gus overcame a wide trip to win the Damon Runyon on Sunday.
OZONE PARK, N.Y. – After Good Luck Gus won the Damon Runyon Stakes for New York-breds on Dec. 14, part-owner Michael Dubb said he would like to give the colt a chance in an open-company stakes for 3-year-olds early in 2015.
Good Luck Gus, who has worked only once since the Damon Runyon, was not among the 24 nominees for next Saturday’s Grade 3 Withers Stakes.
“I don’t think he’s going to be ready till the Gotham,” said Dubb, referring to the Grade 3, $400,000 race at Aqueduct on March 7. “With all the missed time due to weather, we’re not putting the pedal to the metal right now.”
Good Luck Gus, a son of Lookin At Lucky, ran seven times at 2, winning two sprints for New York-bred 2-year-olds as well as the Damon Runyon at a mile and 70 yards.
