Gomez wins No. 70, ties Bailey
INGLEWOOD, Calif.-Jockey Garrett Gomez won his 70th stakes of 2007 aboard Hucking Hot in Saturdays $68,650 Audrey Skirball-Kenis Stakes at Hollywood Park, equaling Jerry Baileys 2003 record for most stakes wins in a year.
Hucking Hot ($7.40) rallied between fillies in early stretch before pulling away to win by a length. Lavender Sky finished second, a head in front of Model in the field of six 3-year-old fillies.
Sent off as the favorite, Hucking Hot ran 1 1/8 miles on turf in 1:48.56. She was making her first start since finishing second in the China Doll Stakes at Santa Anita in March. Owned by a partnership led by Jim Ford and trained by Paddy Gallagher, Hucking Hot has won 3 of 9 starts and $141,338.
Gomez was scheduled to have a chance to break the record aboard Spring Awakening in Sundays Moccasin Stakes at Hollywood Park.
