Gomez picks up Pure Clan mount

Garrett Gomez has picked up the mount on Pure Clan for the $2 million Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf next Friday, according to his agent, Ron Anderson.

The mount on Pure Clan became available after the filly's previous rider, Julien Leparoux, opted to stay with defending champion Forever Together in the Filly and Mare Turf, which is run over 1 1/4 miles.

Pure Clan was 10th in the 2008 BC Filly and Mare Turf, and later promoted to ninth when a rival was disqualified for a medication violation. Owned by Lakland Farm and trained by Bob Holthus, Pure Clan has won 2 of 4 starts this year, with both wins coming in graded stakes - the Grade 3 Modesty Handicap at Arlington Park and the Grade 1 Flower Bowl Invitational at Belmont Park on Oct. 3.

The Filly and Mare Turf will be the first time that Gomez has ridden Pure Clan.
