Goldencents filly, Danza colt bring $65,000 each at Keeneland sale
The Keeneland September yearling sale conducted its penultimate session on Saturday without a six-figure horse but is still poised to wrap up as a record renewal.
Saturday's Book 6 opener concluded with 187 sold for gross receipts of $2,228,600, led by a pair of $65,000 yearlings. The average price finished at $11,918, and the median checked in at $7,000. The session's buyback rate was 19 percent.
Through 12 of 13 sessions of this sale, total revenue sits at $375,806,200 from 2,733 horses sold, resulting in an average price tracking at $137,507 and a median currently at $60,000. Last year's 12-session renewal of Keeneland September finished with 2,555 horses sold for $307,845,400, with an average of $120,487 and a median of $57,000. The gross, at that time, was the sixth-highest in the auction's history, while the average and median both established records.
Topping the session Saturday were a $65,000 filly by current leading freshman sire Goldencents, sold to Grassroots Training and Sales, and a $65,000 colt from the first crop of Danza, sold to Ken and Sarah Ramsey. Both Goldencents and Danza stand at Spendthrift Farm.
The Goldencents filly, from the consignment of Four Star Sales, agent, is out of the winning Tapit mare Bellezza Rosso, whose first winner is a daughter of Into Mischief, the sire of Goldencents. Horses appearing on the page include Grade 3-placed stakes winners Deputy Daney and Pinch Pie.
The Danza colt, consigned by Scott Mallory on behalf of Spendthrift Farm, is the first foal out of the unraced Malibu Moon mare Caldwell, whose own dam is a full sister to multiple graded stakes winner Rockport Harbor. It is the family of graded stakes winners Regally Appealing and Appealing Tale.
