Golden Tempo, the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes winner, will miss a planned start in the Grade 2 Jim Dandy Stakes at Saratoga on Aug. 1 due to a bacterial infection, trainer Cherie DeVaux said Saturday.
Instead, DeVaux now plans to train Golden Tempo up to the Travers on Aug. 29 at Saratoga.
DeVaux told Caton Bredar in an interview on FanDuel TV Saturday afternoon that Golden Tempo has been forced to miss 10 days of training.
In a phone interview with Daily Racing Form, DeVaux said that 10-day period will end at the beginning of the week and Golden Tempo could resume training at Keeneland on Monday or Tuesday.
“It could have been pneumonia, but we caught it early,” DeVaux said. “We’re not going to be able to get enough into him to have him ready for the Jim Dandy.”
DeVaux said that Golden Tempo will likely have a workout or two at Keeneland in late July before shipping up to Saratoga.
