Golden Stripe, who had towered over her opposition on paper, lived up to that notice on the racetrack as she waltzed to an 18 1/4-length victory in the $50,000 Distaff Stakes at Assiniboia Downs on Friday evening. A homebred who is owned by K-5 Stable and is trained by Shelley Brown, Golden Stripe had been running very well in open filly and mare competition and was facing fellow Manitoba-breds in the one-mile Distaff. With Gary Baze along for the ride, Golden Stripe went to the front early and improved her position as the 1-5 favorite. Glory Command finished second and Queen Tina third in the field of nine. Golden Stripe collected $30,600 to bring her career bankroll to $121,728. * Earlier on Friday’s program Thereisnofiteclub, favored at 1-2, was a 2 1/4-length winner of the $40,000 CTHS Sales Stakes. Janine Stianson was aboard Thereisnofiteclub, who was winning for the first time while making his fourth start in the six-furlong stakes for 2-year-olds. Halo’s Ring ended second and Naughty Dotty third in the seven-horse field. Thereisnofiteclub is owned by Poseidon Stables LLC and trained by Blair Miller.
