Golden pick six to offer mandatory payout Monday
?q=100)
It seems Golden Gate Fields has saved the toughest for the last on Monday’s final day of the track’s late summer and early autumn meeting.
The 20-cent Golden pick six will have a mandatory payout on Monday and begins with a carryover of $69,893. The bet has not been hit since the season began in late August, and could have a pool of $500,000 on Monday.
The track has raced on a Saturday-through-Monday calendar for the brief season. After Monday, the Northern California racing circuit shifts to a two-week meeting in Fresno beginning Friday.
Monday’s pick six, which encompasses the fifth through 10th races, has fields of seven, seven, nine, 10, eight, and nine horses.
The sequence has several races with numerous contenders and precious few opportunities for bettors to isolate a single selection to reduce ticket costs. A little luck will be a big help Monday.
The pick six has four races on the synthetic main track and two turf races. It begins with a starter allowance for 2-year-olds at 5 1/2 furlongs. In a field of seven, the Del Mar winner Mr. Dreamcycle will start on the synthetic track for the first time and must beat Drum Bunny, a well-beaten third on the surface in an allowance race Sept. 11.
The six-time winner Love’em N Leave’em has attractive form in a $32,000 claimer at six furlongs on the main track, if he starts. Love’em N Leave’em also is entered to race on turf on Sunday. Love’em N Leave’em is a stalker who could be joined in that position by the veteran Cool Mountain Lad or a closer such as Torpedo Away. They’re both capable of a win.
The first turf race of the pick six is a starter allowance at a mile that drew the speedy Il Capitano, who was third in a similar race at 1 1/16 miles on turf Aug. 27. Il Capitano must hold off Lord Wimborne, a two-time winner on turf who won for the fourth time this year in the Humboldt County Fair Marathon at 1 5/8 miles on Aug. 27 at Ferndale.
The final three races are led by favorites who will be key selections on some tickets.
My Yammy Lady, beaten a neck on turf in her last two starts, returns to the synthetic track in a starter allowance at 5 1/2 furlongs. My Yammy Lady can win from off the pace and should have a solid pace to follow.
Derrygoolin is fast enough to lead throughout the ninth race, a $32,000 claimer at a mile on turf. If the pace is too quick, Derrygoolin can be effective as a stalker. A 4-year-old filly, Derrygoolin has won two of her last three starts.
In the last race, an $8,000 claimer for maidens at a mile, You Enjoy Myself will be strongly favored after finishing a fast-closing second in his debut in a sprint on Sept. 9. The Southern California shipper Upright, who had a troubled trip on Sept. 4 at Del Mar, is worth consideration in his Golden Gate debut.
