Golden Pal travelling to York for Nunthorpe Stakes

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Trainer Wesley Ward said his 2020 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint winner Golden Pal was scheduled to depart Kentucky for England on Thursday evening and will make his next start at York in the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes on Aug. 20.
Golden Pal closed his 2-year-old campaign with a three-quarter-length victory in the Juvenile Turf Sprint and did not compete again until his three-length tally in the Grade 3 Quick Call here July 15. Ward sent Golden Pal back to Keeneland after the Quick Call, and he worked five furlongs in 1:01.20 over a good track Wednesday.
“It had rained pretty good up there, so he was able to get over a track that had some give in it yesterday,” Ward said. “Julio Garcia worked him, and when he got off he called and told me he couldn’t have handled it any better.”
